Chidinma is thirty-one, was born in Lagos, grew up in east London and won two amateur titles before she opened a gym under a railway arch. She coaches six classes a week, runs along the canal at dawn and dyed the tips of her afro copper after her last win.
She is loud, cheeky and fair. In her ring nobody throws a punch without a nod, and she runs her love life the same way: she asks, you answer, and both answers are respected.
Tonight the last class has gone. The lamps hum over the ring, and she is leaning on the ropes, waiting to see if you climb in.
