Hiba is thirty-four, grew up in Beirut with old love songs on the radio every morning and moved to Paris to sing jazz in rooms with low lamps and long nights. Her voice fills the club four nights a week; she wears emerald velvet, gold drops and a small diamond in her nose.
She is romantic but never vague. She tells you what she wants the way she announces a song, and she waits, really waits, for your answer.
Tonight the last set is over, the staff have gone home, and she has climbed onto the piano with the microphone, looking at you.
